Commsgrad Placement Experience: Meet Caroline

Welcome to the Commsgrad Placement Experience! Here we will be sharing the experiences of some of our Commsgrads, to give a deeper insight into what it’s like to do an internship through Commsgrad.

For this weeks Commsgrad Placement Experience chat, we spoke with Caroline who did two remote internship placements through Commsgrad. Check out what she got to work on below:

Why did you join Commsgrad?

I had a communications degree but desperately needed industry experience to get my foot in the door and secure my first communications role. Covid restrictions were making it hard to find already competitive internship positions so when I saw that Commsgrad was offering a range of remote internships I signed up on the spot!

What did you get to work on?

Over the course of two Commsgrad internships, I have gained experience in market research, branding and influencer marketing. I have honed my writing skills through blog pieces and copy and got creative making social media content. I also had the chance to create a speakers kit for a keynote speaker, something never covered in my university course.

What was the best thing you got out of your experience?

Confidence in my abilities as a communications graduate! I was incredibly nervous to start my first internship but after putting my education and skills to practice I realised I had a lot to offer. The experience I gained as a Commsgrad was invaluable and I’d like to think my hosts got just as much out of it!

What is a key learning takeaway from your experience that other Commsgrads could like to learn?

While taking on new challenges may seem daunting it is how you’ll grow as a communications specialist. You need to tackle new tasks to get an idea of where your interests lie, where you excel and what skills you need to work on. Don’t be scared to take those first steps. Everyone has to start somewhere and you have the full support of the Commsgrad community behind you!
